Queendom

I’m back up at the crack of dawn, not always by choice I might add. But it’s been a crazy several weeks. I’m pulling together something special for the blog this month and that’s been taking up all my time. More to come on that little surprise! But in the mean time, I have to update you on the latest additions to my music playlist.
You guys know I can’t get through my early morning/late night writing sessions without some good music. Some writers enjoy absolute silence while they create. Me on the other hand, music is what gets me going.
So who’s up next? Artist Austyn Leshawn that’s who. This new Toronto artist has my attention, her “Queendom” track is an absolute powerful ballot that can inspire women everywhere.
She’s definitely inspired me to get some work done.
On repeat:
- Queendom
- Guarantee

Don’t you hate when you fall asleep only to wake up at the crack of dawn – eyes wide open – looking at the ceiling, wondering why you’re awake? And all you can do is decide whether you should just lay there or make use of this early morning start.
Well, as my body tried to persuade me to go back to bed, my conscious decided against it. So, I powered up the trusty laptop to put in some work. Not before I found the perfect MOOD MUSIC to get my creative juices flowing.
Thanks to the mellow r&b sounds of OVO Sound artist Majid Jordan, singer Majid Al Maskati and producer Jordan Ullman helped me pass the time to create not just one but three blog posts for my fellow blog lovers.
Make it a great morning!
On repeat:
- Day & Night
- Small Talk
- Every Step, Every Way
Majid Jordan, for a late night drive or early morning writing vibe.

Her Name Is Sa-Roc
Posted by Karen Bishop | Leave a Comment
While scrolling through my Facebook news feed, this breath of fresh air – who goes by the name Sa-Roc the MC – appeared on my timeline. Quite honestly, I was intrigued enough to click the play button simply because she has a pretty dope style. Yes, I assumed she couldn’t rhyme, she was too pretty, too eccentric and the formula for female rappers is still very much about…sex sells. Well I guess, I was wrong.
Sa-Roc the MC collaborated with the likes of Jay Z, Kanye West, Jay Electronica and a long list of well know hip hop heavy weights. In my humble opinion, she’s the perfect blend of Rah Digga, Amil and Lady of Rage. I’m three songs into her Legends of Black Moses album and haven’t been disappointed yet.
I’m feeling good about this one.

Jazz Cartier New Hip Hop Religion

I stumbled upon the new voice of Toronto hip hop, artist Jazz Cartier aka Jacuzzi La Fleur – rumoured to be the new darling of Toronto. Jazz Cartier (who once toyed with the idea of becoming a lawyer), received 7.3 on Pitchfork for his self-released mix-tape Marauding in Paradise.
“From everybody that’s been hitting me up and what I’ve seen online, people are saying it’s the best thing outta Canada.” JC
Do we agree?
Tracks I like: Feel Something, New Religion, Guardian Angel.

Mr. Parker has been on repeat on my laptop. Kardinal Offishall & Nottz Raw released the video for the single, which features the soulful sounds of Shi Wisdom. The video compliments yet another hot single for Kardi. But new artist Shy Wisdom, is no slouch to hot singles either…remember “Love Speak“? Well if you don’t click here. The unruly classroom concept has been done before but it’s even more comical when you’re looking at a classroom filled with some of Toronto’s known artist. Mr. Parker features cameo’s by; Kreesha Turner, Silver (Solitair), A-Game, Luu Breeze and new artist, Haley Smallz.
Kardi ( a veteran in the game) does his thing, as the ring leader of the class. However, I have to send a special shout out to Shi Wisdom. Shi is another Toronto artist to seriously watch out for (I’ve said this many times). I had the opportunity to listen (and watch) her perform at the Gladstone a while back. I was taken by the close similarities to Chrisette Michelle and how effortless her singing approach was. So effortless, you try it at home and it doesn’t sound the same….trust me. Shi’s got something, I guess we have to wait and see, what it truly is.
I couldn’t leave without giving (my personal) LMFAO Award to one of the funniest men alive, Canadian Comedian Trixx. They couldn’t have found a better fool (I mean) person, to play the class room teacher. 🙂
